Well this one has got a bit of a story. A friends partner at the time was very friendly, open and cheerful but had (it seemed to me) crushingly low self esteem. Character traits I noticed in myself (maybe not the open bit - or the cheerful bit - come to think of it I'm not very friendly either) and this was written as an offer of help - though not really deliberately and I don't think I ever pointed it out or even spoke to her about it. Listening to it now however the 'bad advice' mentioned in the lyric is actually nowhere to be seen, what I do seem to be saying is that self-view can be the most inaccurate view of all - listen (if you can) to friends. Very much a 'Physician heal thyself' thing really.
The (semi-live) drums were recorded with the assistance of Mark Cottrell at a local school of which a friend was caretaker. I played the drums in a classroom while pointing the mikes into the adjoining assembly hall. Not exactly 'When the Levee breaks' but nice and lively.
